AVOID these companies & sites

cterusa@elcidproducts.com -
Why? "THE MOST DIFFICULT, cheapest and conniving person I have ever worked for.  She put me through hell and back on a simple POS job similar to what she posted today, making numerous changes  (6 changes - because she simply changed her mind), calling me as early as 7am and if I didn’t call her right back she would leave threatening voicemails and emails for me saying she was going to have to find someone else (after I’d already started job). When I told her she was rude and unprofessional, she called me apologizing...A TOTAL NUTCASE!!!
Basically she was difficult from beginning to end and made me wish I had never taken the stupid job. Today she said “the check is in the mail”...but honestly I have a gut feeling not to trust her."

Elisabetta Rogiani – rogiani.com:
Why? "Refused to pay me after authorizing over 30 hours of work. Told me that I couldn't just write up an invoice and expect her to pay it. Will try to renegotiate and low ball you after terms have been agreed to and work has been done. Goes through employees like kleenex because she's super demanding, keeps changing her mind all the time, but doesn't believe that corrections are something she should pay for. Calls at all hours of the day and night, once at 10:30 pm because she was having some sort of computer problem she wanted my help with. Can be insulting and abusive when she doesn't get her way. Had her lawyer send me a threatening letter when I insisted she pay me a $100 balance due! Uses the check in is the mail excuse repeatedly. Mood swings, outbursts, forgetfulness, running around like a chicken with her head cut off...a possible drug problem? Avoid at all costs".

To avoid or at least be in control of a situation (like that nut of a client) you must set up your working terms up front. Specify what hours you can be contacted (like other businesses do), any additional services outside the agreed upon (in your signed contract) will be billed at an hourly rate, set amount of changes/revisions in contract (any more will be charged extra), any requests or unacceptable behavior outside the agreement will be cause for immediate stop to the project with payment due (kill fee), payment due within 30 days (anything after accrues a percentage weekly).

This is the importance of having a signed agreement UPFRONT. If they reneg or bail, you are in the right. You can go after them for this legally. In NY, small claims court is up tp $3000. If they don't show up, you win.

If you don't already have a solid contract with legals on the back, I advise you check out the Graphic Artists Guilds Pricing and Ethical Guidelines 11th Edition and Business and Legal Forms for the (Artist / Illustrator / Graphic Designer) by Tad Crawford.

What that awful client really deserved was a PITA tax (pain in the A$$). When people hear that it will cost them to voice their every thought and question paying you, it usually puts them a bit more in line.

Best tip - If someone comes off as flaky from the start, you may want to just skip working with them completely...It may be more of a hassle than anything and will cost YOU in the end.

The problem with this has-been designer, former stylist, appears to be that she is the dreaded micro-managing type and is verbally abusive to those who work with her. If you are a web designer and have your own business, she treats you as she does her "interns" (unpaid employees). If you do not cater to her every need, she will not pay you. Craigslist artists should know that "every need" means you must do more than she's agreed to pay you for. This includes late night calls from her having computer problems and expecting you to sit with her on the phone to fix them free of charge. If you play with fire, you will get burned. Ms. Rogiani has the reputation for not being professional, for not being honorable, for being a verbal bully and making threats to her employees. In short, she should not be trusted, is a scam artist and a waste of a human being.

There are more complaints that I have fell across and I suppose I should add what I know I have read here.

A summary of what lengths this woman goes to abuse people and their time:

First complaint I found was a job posting on Craigslist seeking a book keeper. Respondants were interviewed by a person who goes by the name of Corrine (last name unknown). During the interview Ms. Rogiani had each person applying for the job enter and print out checks in order to make sure they know how to operate the Quick Books program. She would sit down next to job applicant and would have questions on how to do this or that in Quick Books. Ms. Rogiani said that this was to make sure she knew how to use Quick Books as many people claim to know it. Corrine said the last person they hired did not. As the final attendee to the interview, whom is the complainer, she stated that she drove a long way for this interview, entered and printed the check as requested, spent time showing Ms. Rogiani how to navigate the Quick Books program, felt something was odd about the interview but kept positive, and also stated that the office was messy and dirty with racks of old clothes smelling of stale cigarettes. As the woman left the office after she was told she would receive a callback if she got the job, she heard Ms. Rogiani laugh loudly and say to Corrine that she has all the checks done. The woman stopped and continued to listen. Corrine said, "All of them are?" Ms. Rogiani said, "Yes. They are all done and I send them now." Corrine said, "Great. So which person did you like? I need to call one tomorrow." Ms. Rogiani laughed and admitted she had no intentions of hiring anyone. She just had to have her checks printed and learn how to use Quick Books so she can do it herself. The woman was enraged and was going to go back to the office to let them know what she thinks about using people like this for a job that does not exist, but did not.

There have been many odd job postings by Ms. Rogiani. Many complaints have been made regarding not being paid as promised. No positions open at Rogiani, Inc. but Craigslist responders have been used as extra hands and promised pay, but never is anyone. She will find any reason to not pay any one. If she pays, she will pay what she wants to pay. If a web designer bills by the hour, she won't pay the invoice claiming she does not believe the amount of hours worked and will not pay it, as she knows you can not easily prove it. A web designer will need to bill at a rate per job, then she will string you a long and have you do everything under the sun for her and then complain about your performance and again refuse to pay you. Or for any reason. This woman tends to be a bully. Has done some stalker-ish things I've read. She sells clothing for yoga, yet has no respect for the yoga community. There is a yoga studio in the complex where her office is located. One yoga student has commented about being called a freak and harrassed by Ms. Rogiani as she walks up the stairs to get to the yoga studio. It was also revealed that this situation of Ms. Rogiani harrassing yoga students became so bad that the yoga studio made Ms. Rogiani aware that they will seek legal actions if she continues. Meanwhile Exhale sells Elisabetta Rogiani yoga clothes and it's only a matter of time as being a part of the yoga community myself that people won't think Ms. Rogiani is very funny. People who do yoga are freaks in Ms. Rogiani's eyes, it's a wonder why she makes clothing for them then. Perhaps she's a washed up has-been who can't sell her frocks. Or perhaps she's just too famous for being a true waste of time.

      Only time will tell.
